SURRENDER

At LWR we know how difficult it can be to let go of your Weimaraner. Admitting you cannot care for your Weimaraner is also the most selfless thing you can do for your Weim. You can be assured that we will carefully select the right home for your Weim – a safe, loving, forever home that will provide what your Weim needs.

Please be advised that if you have an aggressive Weimaraner, we recommend you seek the help of a reputable behaviorist.  We can help you locate one if you like.  Please go to the “Contact Us” page and send us a message.

There are many reasons why you may have to find your Weim a new home.  Regardless of the reason, we want to help. If after careful thought you decide that you absolutely cannot keep your Weimaraner, please complete our Surrender/Intake form below.

The Surrender/Intake form provides us with information about your Weim’s living arrangements, physical traits, personality, and habits. A phone interview will then be conducted to ask any additional questions or clarify any points.   At this time, we will also provide information about the surrender process and what is involved.

We do not have a physical kennel.  All Weims that we accept are placed into foster homes, evaluated, and matched to an applicant for their forever homes. The information on this form helps us to determine the best possible fit when looking for a foster or a new home for your Weim.

Before we can take in your Weim, you will need to provide us with all the vet records you have on your dog, including those which confirm the dog is up to date on vaccinations (distemper, adenovirus 2, parvovirus, and rabies), heartworm tested with a negative result, spayed or neutered.  If your Weim is not spayed or neutered and you cannot afford to have the surgery or vaccinations done, the rescue will pay to have your Weim spayed, neutered and/or vaccinated once it is brought into our program.  Since our funds are limited, if you as the Weim’s owner can do this for us, it is greatly appreciated.

Your Weim will remain in your home until we have located the right foster for him.  We have a limited number of foster homes available, and Weims that have no owner or home are given first priority.

Once your Weim has been turned into the rescue, he will not be returned to you. We can update you on how your Weim is doing in the future, but we can not put you in direct contact with the Weim’s new family.

If you cannot complete this form, or in case of an emergency, please email our intake coordinator at intake@louisvilleweimrescue.com.
